Reception hosted by Ambassador for volunteers on the occasion of the visit of Honb’le M. Hamid Ansari


On 24th October, 2016, Ambassador hosted a dinner for volunteers  who worked during the visit of H.E. M. Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India. The dinner was held in the auditorium of Amrita Sher-Gil Cultural Centre.

The dinner was also attended  by  Mr Pascal Alan Nazareth, Ambassador of India (Ret’d.). Mr. Nazareth was in Hungary for the release of  the Hungarian translation of   his book on Mahatma Gandhi titled Gandhi’s Outstanding Leadership”.  The book was launched by Ambassador Chhabra in Central European University on 24th October.

Special guests were also invited on the occasion. Ms Ayesha Sawhney and Mr Karan Sawhney, daughter  and son-in-law of Mohammad Ataur Rahman, India’s Chargé d’Affaires in Budapest in 1956 also attended the dinner.  Mr. Rahman was instrumental in saving the lives of Mr. Arpad Goncz, (later became President of democratic Hungary) and others, for their involvement in Hungarian Revolution of 1956. As a special gesture for heroic deed of Mr. Rahman, Hungarian Government had invited son and daughter of Mr. Rahman to participate in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 celebrations on 23rd October, 2016.
