JOINT STATEMENT

 

The Joint Inaugural Session of the Fifteenth Meeting of India-Hungary Joint Business Council and the 1st Session of the India-Hungary Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation was held at New Delhi on 15th January, 2007. The Indian business delegation was led by Mr Onkar S Kanwar, Former President of FICCI and Chairman & Managing Director of Apollo Tyres Ltd. The Hungarian Business Delegation was led by Mr. Péter SZÉKELY, Leader of the Hungarian Business Delegation and Co-Chairman of the Hungarian side of the Joint Business Council. The Indian official delegation was led by Dr Ashwani Kumar, Hon’ble Minister of State for Industry, Government of India. The Hungarian official delegation was led by Dr. János VERES, Finance Minister, Co-Chairman of the Joint Commission on Economic Co-operation. The meeting had the benefit of address of H E Mr Peter MEDGYESSY, Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Hungary.

 

The meeting was attended by a cross section of Indian and Hungarian companies having interest in evolving stronger commercial linkages.

 

The meeting was held in the positive environment and both sides renewed their resolve to strengthen the relationship.

 

The program included addresses by Dr Ashwani Kumar, Hon’ble Minister of State for Industry, Government of India, H E János Veres, Minister for Finance of the Republic of Hungary, H E Peter Medgyessy, Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Hungary, Mr Onkar S Kanwar, Former President of FICCI and Chairman & Managing Director of Apollo Tyres Ltd., and by Mr Péter Székely, Leader of the Hungarian business delegation.

 

The Joint Inaugural Session was followed by the split sessions of the JBC and JCEC. Three presentations were made by Indian and Hungarian side in the split session of JBC. Mr Rajan Kohli, Deputy Secretary General, FICCI, made a presentation on the Indian Economy and Dr Zoltán Bodnár, CEO, Eximbank Pte Ltd. about the services of the EXIMBANK’s to facilitating in depth discussions evolving joint recommendations for giving the desired push to Indian-Hungarian cooperation.

 

 

 

 

Following are the highlights of the meeting:

 

·           Both side expressed confidence the ongoing dialogue between the businessmen through the JBC would pave the way for strengthening bilateral economic relations.

 

·           Both side agreed that the Hungarian and Indian businessmen should look at newer and niche products for trade. Hungarian companies could consider setting up manufacturing bases in India and catering the South-East Asian countries. The Indian companies should look at Hungary as a regional hub for Central European and EU operations.

 

·           The Indian side invited Hungary to participate in Trade Fairs organized in India every year.

 

·           Both sides agreed for regular exchange of information about changes in trade policy & laws, tenders for purchase of goods & construction projects and possibilities for export of goods & services between the two countries.

 

·           Both sides agreed to facilitate exchange of business visits, hold presentations as well as participate in the international exhibitions and organize exchange of business delegations by the respective business chambers.

 

·           The Indian side informed the Hungarian side about the reforms in Foreign Investment policy of India.

 

·           The Hungarian Side (ITD Hungary) informed the interested Indian companies about the investment climate in Hungary, possible fields of cooperation, investment opportunities and the subsidies which can be earned from the Government.

 

·           Both the sides decided to undertake promotion of bilateral investments and also undertake encouragement of joint co-operation in various industrial sectors.

 

·           Both the sides expressed satisfaction at growing investment relations. Acquisition of the well known company Ganz Transelektro (GTV) by the Thapar group in August 06 represents the synergy that exists between our two sides. All the investments and joint ventures are expected to act as a catalyst for bilateral trade.

 

·           Volume of bilateral trade was not commensurate with the potential that existed and there was a need to achieve more balanced trade. Greater efforts were needed to be made by both the sides to diversify the structure of bilateral trade.

 

·           Automotive Components Manufacturers Association of India suggested exchange of business delegation between the two countries to promote further cooperation in the sectors.

 

·        Referring to the continuous deregulation of the economies in Hungary and India both sides felt that there was good opportunity for entrepreneurs to invest in larger measures and setup joint ventures in two countries, which would also boost third country exports. The thrust areas of industrial and technological cooperation identified are:

 

·        Auto components

·        Pharmaceutical & healthcare

·        Ayurveda

·        Information Technology

·        Energy & power

·        Environment & water treatment

·        R & D / Science & Technology Cooperation

·        Transportation

·        Agriculture

·        Industrial machinery & machinery tools manufacturing

·        Chemical industry

·        SMEs

·        Electronic industry and aviation in defence cooperation

 

 

·        Both sides should jointly consider framing a long-term strategy with a reasonable time frame with focus on key sectors to promote to way trade and investments as far as banking and financial infrastructure support.

 

·        Both sides agreed that the JBC should provide complete assistance in trade and felt that an Indo-Hungarian website will ensure the business information flow necessary to boost the trade and investment exchange.

 

·        Individual business meetings followed the meeting. Both sides agreed upon holding the Sixteenth Meeting of India-Hungary JBC at a mutually convenient date and place in Hungary.

ANNEX 2: The detailed information from the Hungarian company’s business opportunities for the Indian side, sector wise.

 

PHARMACEUTICAL AND HEALTHCARE

 

The Hungarian company called Garuda Trade Ltd. would like to find Indian business partners (government and private) for the export to India of high-quality Hungarian electronic health-care equipments (blood-sugar level and urine control equipments).

 

The medical waste is defined as a mixture of infected materials containing syringes sharp steel, instruments, glassware, paper and plastics and used bandages, cottons etc.. such waste has to be treated in a logistical system and transport them to incinerators to destroy by fire. However this method is out of date, not fully safe and costly, unfriendly to the environment as the incinerator’s smoke pose to cancer.

 

The Hungarian company East-West Trading Co. takes the liberty to offer their system having the most up to date equipment called

,, Sterilization and Fragmentation of Medical Waste ’’

The salient features of our equipment

 

-          Name is Clave equipment

-          Fully automatic and controlled by computer

-          Very high capacities

-          Absolute safety

-          Using high temperature and high pressured steam , no fire so friendly to the environment

-          There are three types , Clave – 300 , 1000 and 2000 make possible to use small

      (15-20 beds) to big (5-800 beds) hospitals

-          Simple operation only one non-skilled person is required

-          Practically no regular service is needed only minimal technical check up app. one year operation

-          Suitable to fight again any diseases because kills all type of bacteria, viruses of the World.

E.g. the most resisted virus is Hepatitis B which is killed on 132. C degree, our equipment use 138 C degree

-          All Clave machine has the following certificates

At present the company does not know other manufacturers in the EU who have the certificate of d. and e.

For installation and commission the following pre—conditions is needed shelter (room) with concrete floor, electricity, gas, water and sewerage connections.

 

All Clave equipment is suitable for hospitals, medical institutions, air ports and harbors.

The Hungarian company can introduce their equipment in Budapest-Hungary working in a big hospital.

 

AYURVEDA

 

AYUSH informed the Hungarian side of its intension to organize in Hungary an Ayurveda Conference in 2007 and sought support and cooperation of the Hungarian side. AYUSH informed that Ayurveda is an officially recognized system of medicine with its education and practice regulated through an Act of Parliament called Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970. Manufacturing of Ayurveda products is regulated under the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics act, 1940 and there is a licensing system in force mandatory for manufacturers as well as the products manufactured by them to comply with. AYUSH conveyed that, for the Ayurveda Conference, to be organized at the regional level with participation from experts from India and from across Europe a high level delegation, possibly led by Minister of Health and Family Welfare would be visiting Hungary. It would be good if Hungary could support the event through high level participation. The occasion would be used to in addition explore possibilities for export of generic drugs from India.

 

The Hungarian side welcomed the information and agreed to extend all possible support.

 

The Hungarian Ayurveda Medical Foundation informed the Indian side that they would like to import from India know-how of ayurvedic health-care centers, ayurvedic medical books and to bring ayurvedic doctors, assistants and nurses to work in Hungary.

 

INFROMATION TECHNOLOGY

 

Hungarian side stated that Hungarian Association of IT Companies (IVSZ) is committed to develop the Hungarian IT industry, its mission is to represent the interests of Hungarian IT companies, as well as pursuing proactive lobbying activity. The latter could be strengthened by signing actual contracts covering the organisation of supported expositions, business meetings, the activities of business associations and the presentation of companies.

ENERGY SECTOR

 

Hungarian side stated that MOL, the Hungarian oil company has already established some useful contacts in India and is working for joint exploration in India as well as in third countries.   

The Indian side welcomed the development and suggested that companies like ONGC Videsh Limited (OVL) and Oil India Limited (OIL) could explore the opportunity of forming a joint venture with the Hungarian MOL for ventures in third countries.

 

ENVIRONMENT AND WATER TREATMENT

 

Indian side stated interest in collaborating with Hungary in the field of environment protection and water management related areas where Hungary has traditionally been active. Waste management issues are also of interest, especially in our cities and towns.

 

The Hungarian side welcomed the Indian initiative and encourages the cooperation of the private sector in identifying projects of common interest with special regard to best practices and innovative technologies. The Hungarian side introduced the Hungarian Association of Environmental Enterprises (KSZGYSZ) representing Hungarian enterprises providing innovative solutions, advanced technology and services in the fields of waste management, waste water treatment, and air purification.

 

The Hungarian side presented ORGANICA Ecotechnologies, a market leading environmental service provider of Hungary. Its unique ORGANICA wastewater treatment technology is especially suited for sustainable water management solutions.  The company is interested in finding strategic players in the environmental sector capable of implementing a country wide franchise system in India. The Organica Technology, with the utilization of complex ecosystems and the appearance of a botanical garden offers a revolutionary approach to wastewater treatment.

 

Indian side expressed its awareness of excellent technology in Hungary for support to armed forces like portable water purification tanks and said it would encourage private sectors to actively cooperate in these fields.

 

Hungarian side welcomed the interest and expressed keenness to encourage its private sector to get in touch with Indian private sector in this field.

 

R&D /S&T COOPERATION

 

Both the sides agreed to improve cooperation in the following areas: R&D, technology transfer, standards setting in the processed food sector.

 

 

TRANSPORTATION

 

Several Hungarian companies are willing to participate in transport reconstruction projects with engineering services, technology and know-how transfer as well as manufactured products.

 

AGRICULTURE

 

Garuda Trade Ltd. (Budapest) represents the Chamber Of Agriculture of Budapest (Budapesti Agrárkamara, BAK) at the Indo-Hungarian Joint Business Council, in order to find Indian partners who would be interested in the products of the Hungarian agriculture, with the aim of contributing to the re-strengthening of the once flourishing Hungarian agriculture and animal husbandry.

 

We would also like to find Indian partners who could export ecological (bio-degradable) pesticides, fodder-supplements or seed grains. We are also looking for companies and organizations who would be interested in an agricultural R&D cooperation with Hungarian firms.

 

INDUSTRIAL MACHINERY & MACHINE TOOLS MANUFACTURING

 

 

Garuda Trade Ltd. also represents the Budapest Chamber of Trade and Industry (Budapesti Kereskedelmi és Iparkamara), more specifically the Rév Group of Companies.

 

The Rév Group of Companies would be interested to find Indian manufacturers and buyers from the following sub-sectors: stainless steel tubes, stainless steal semi products, welding material and welding machinery, aluminum gas cylinders, motor-boats, motor-ships, yachts, bus rental and trading, passenger transport, metallurgical and rolling mill equipments, industrial screw compressors, refrigerators for catering and industry, gastro technical equipments, air technology equipments, store fixture trading, medical equipments, Herendi China Sale and other gifts, Men Handball.

 

ELECTRONIC INDUSTRY AND AVIATION IN DEFENCE COOPERATION

 

Both Sides referred that there is a Joint Committee established by the Ministry of Defense of defense supplies and scientific cooperation between the two countries.

 

With respect to the above both sides emphasize the importance of such cooperation.

 

Arnitel Ltd. as member of Defense Committee expressed their readiness to enter into talks on the following subjects which may be of interest for both sides:

 

-          modernization of analogue radar systems

-          supplying and mutually further developing latest generation

Helicopter simulator

-          supplying man portable and/or vehicle mounted border surveillance

and perimeter

-          discussing possibilities of repair, spare parts supply and professional

upgrade of EW systems delivered earlier

-          supplying and mutually developing ultra light or very light aircrafts

for first stage pilot training and for UAV purposes

-          supplying mobile shelter mounted water cleaning system.

 

The successful creation and existence of middle and long term projects can be supported by a beneficial credit scheme under the auspices of state owned Hungarian Eximbank.

 

SANITER INDUSTRY

 

Kerox Kft. is a Hungarian manufacturer and a leading worldwide supplier of ceramic cartridges with the annual sales of 15 million pieces (2006). Beside our traditional two handle plastic cartridges and single handle standard cartridges in the last years Kerox has developed a wide range of advanced products in the rotary, diverter, joystick, head valve, single flow, flow-thru pressure balance and thermostatic categories.

Their main goal is to increase business with our existing Indian clients and to find new OEM partners.
